Bear Grylls Ultimate Survival Kit 31-000701

Here’s a bit of kit that, like a cycle helmet or insurance policy, you buy hoping you’ll never have to use it as intended.
Below is a run-down of all the stuff you get with the kit – there isn’t room here for us to go into detail on each and every piece of equipment and it’s pretty self-explanatory what each item is anyway – but note that despite the exhaustive list everything fits into a waterproof sheath that’s only 4.5” by 5.0” in size, and total weight is just 4.2oz.
So, the 16-piece kit consists of:
Gerber miniature multi-tool with needle nose pliers, wire cutters, fine edge knife, Phillips screwdriver, small flat driver, medium flat driver, lanyard ring, bottle opener, tweezers;
waterproof bag, miniature light, hand saw, signalling mirror, survival blanket, fire starter, waterproof matches, cotton ball (fire tinder), snare wire, emergency cord, waxed thread, fishing kit, sewing kit, lanyard, whistle, lightweight rip-stop nylon bag with waterproof zipper, land to air rescue instructions, and ‘Priorities of Survival’ pocket guide containing Bear Gryll’s survival essentials.Obviously it’s worth having at least some knowledge of how to use all the above before you venture out into the wilds; even better, of course, would be never having to use it at all…

Benchmade
The 555BK-S30V Mini Griptilian model features a flat ground CPM-S30V blade, round thumb-hole openers and an AXIS lock mechanism. The handles are made from Noryl GTX with a reversible pocket clip for completely ambidextrous carry. With multiple blade styles, sizes and colors your Grips just got a little wilder.
CPM-S30V Stainless Steel
A premium steel created especially for knives, it is a powder steel creating uniform carbide distribution and clean steel properties. As a blade material, it offers excellent corrosion resistance and superb edge qualities. This stainless steel is extremely well balanced, making it one of the best all-around choices for daily tasks.
AXIS Lock
A Benchmade original, AXIS has been turning heads and winning fans ever since its introduction. A 100 percent ambidextrous design, AXIS gets its function from a small, hardened steel bar that rides forward and back in a slot machined into both steel liners. The bar extends to both sides of the knife, spans the liners and is positioned over the rear of the blade. It engages a ramped tang portion of the knife blade when it is opened. Two omega style springs, one on each liner, give the locking bar its inertia to engage the knife tang. As a result, the tang is wedged solidly between a sizable stop pin and the AXIS bar itself.
